Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer: Design, build, operate, and support the company’s Kubernetes platform across on-premises and multiple cloud environments with an accent on automation, standardization, and reliability. Focus on cluster lifecycle management, GitOps workflows, and integrating with the Internal Developer Platform.

Location: All candidates must be located in Portugal. Hybrid working style, with offices in Coimbra, Aveiro, and Porto.

What you will do

• Build, operate, and evolve Kubernetes clusters on-premises (VM-based) and public clouds (AWS EKS, GCP GKE, Azure AKS, Oracle OKE).
• Own cluster lifecycle: provisioning, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning.
• Develop Infrastructure as Code with Terraform modules and automation.
• Implement GitOps workflows for platform components.
• Integrate Kubernetes into Internal Developer Platform with standard patterns for clusters, namespaces, ingress, secrets, and observability.
• Participate in on-call rotation, troubleshoot issues, maintain documentation, and collaborate with teams.

Requirements

• Must be located in Portugal.
• Strong hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes environments.
• Experience with on-premises, VM-based infrastructure.
• Solid understanding of Kubernetes internals, Linux systems, and networking.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform) and multiple cloud environments.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows and GitOps tools; proven troubleshooting of distributed systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with multiple managed Kubernetes services (EKS, GKE, AKS, OKE).
• Running Kubernetes on-prem (bare metal or VM-based).
• Exposure to observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana), ingress/traffic management, secrets management, and IDP integration.
• Understanding of SRE concepts (SLOs, error budgets, incident response).
