Head of Engineering Marketplace

What you will do

• Own the engineering strategy, roadmap delivery, quality, reliability, and architectural evolution of the Marketplace domain.
• Lead engineering across Experience, Checkout, Discoverability, and Post Purchase.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, Commercial, and Operations to improve the funnel from discovery through booking and post-purchase engagement.
• Strengthen traffic resilience and operational excellence through peak-readiness, observability, capacity planning, incident response, and post-incident learning.
• Improve search, discoverability, pricing, conversion, checkout, payments, servicing, and experimentation systems.
• Establish planning, technical review, dependency management, staffing, metrics, release management, and engineering leadership practices.

Requirements

• Approximately 10+ years of software engineering experience with substantial experience leading engineering leaders and cross-functional, product-facing organisations.
• Experience leading multiple teams through managers, ideally in a marketplace, checkout, discovery, growth, consumer trust, or similar funnel-focused domain.
• Strong technical judgment in distributed systems, modern cloud infrastructure, APIs and integrations, mobile and web product systems, observability, and incident management.
• Deep experience in at least two areas including search and recommendations, checkout and payments, risk and fraud, retention and lifecycle, internationalisation, or high-traffic consumer products.
• Ability to translate commercial goals into engineering priorities using metrics, experimentation, and clear trade-off decisions.
• Experience improving engineering maturity through planning discipline, staffing models, quality systems, architecture reviews, predictable delivery, and leadership development.

Nice to have

• Background in ticketing, travel, e-commerce, food delivery, gaming commerce, consumer fintech, or classifieds.
• Experience with search, ranking, personalisation, recommendation systems, payments, refunds, fraud prevention, identity, or regulated transactions.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled product features and AI for product relevance or engineering productivity.
• Experience supporting global, localised consumer products with multiple payment methods, regions, and traffic patterns.
