Associate Counsel (Music Industry)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Must be in the office 4 days a week)

Salary: $120,000 - $170,000/annual

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including recording, distribution, merchandising, and sync licensing deals.
• Manage the artist lifecycle, including signings, renegotiations, option exercises, and terminations.
• Serve as the primary legal advisor to senior management and cross-functional teams on copyright, trademarks, and digital rights.
• Represent the company on industry group committees and boards, specifically the ReSound Board.
• Oversee corporate governance, compliance, and coordinate regulatory matters and copyright reform initiatives.
• Maintain contract records and oversee rights management systems for the region.

Requirements

• Canadian law degree and membership in good standing with a Canadian law society.
• Minimum 5–6 years of post-call experience.
• Strong knowledge of copyright law and commercial contracting for recording agreements.
• Location: Must be based in Toronto, Ontario, and able to work from the office 4 days per week.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
• High degree of professional ethics, judgment, and discretion.

• Experience working within a music company or multinational organization.
• Experience negotiating DSP, artist, and brand partnership agreements.
