TL;DR

Senior Director, Business Development – Commercial Evaluation and Strategy (Biotech): Lead commercial evaluation and strategic positioning of external business development opportunities including acquisitions, licensing, and partnerships with an accent on market insights, competitive intelligence, and long-term enterprise decision-making. Focus on developing integrated business cases, end-to-end diligence processes, forecasting methodologies, and scenario planning to drive portfolio strategy.

Location: Fully remote from anywhere (occasional domestic travel 10-20% required)

Salary: $222,000–$303,000 Annual

What you will do

  • Develop robust commercial strategies and business cases for complex external opportunities like acquisitions, licensing, and partnerships.
  • Drive end-to-end commercial evaluation in diligence processes, providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Shape asset positioning, differentiation strategies, and long-term value creation.
  • Assess market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and macro trends to inform BD prioritization.
  • Lead market research, establish diligence frameworks, and liaise across Commercial, Finance, Legal, and other functions.
  • Mentor junior team members and represent the organization in external engagements.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (ideally MBA) with 8+ years’ experience or PhD with 6+ years’ experience in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Neurology, or related.
  • 7+ years business experience in Pharma/Biotech with track record in business development, commercial strategy, or strategic consulting.
  • Deep expertise in commercial evaluation including forecasting, pricing, market access, and launch planning.
  • Advanced understanding of disease areas (Respiratory, Inflammation, Immunology, CNS/rare), drug development, and commercialization.
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional diligence, stakeholder influence, and talent development.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical skills, and strategic networks.
