Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting (AI)

Location: USA - Remote

Salary: $170,000–$220,000 base salary annually, plus bonus and equity

What you will do

• Own technical accounting across revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, capitalized software, leases, business combinations, and complex financing instruments.
• Prepare GAAP financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A, and registration-related disclosures from the ground up.
• Lead the external audit by building the accounting policy library, managing the PBC process, and serving as the primary technical contact for auditors.
• Manage external technical accounting advisors and valuation specialists supporting 409A valuations, purchase price allocations, and intangible asset valuations.
• Build the foundation for SEC reporting, S-1 preparation, SOX readiness, scalable controls, workflows, and reporting calendars.
• Use AI for research, memo drafting, tie-outs, disclosure benchmarking, workflow automation, and internal tooling, while building the accounting team as the company scales.

Requirements

• Active CPA with a strong Big 4 or national accounting firm background.
• 8+ years of progressive technical accounting and/or financial reporting experience with deep US GAAP expertise.
• Hands-on experience with ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 842, ASC 805, GAAP financial statements, and footnote preparation.
• Experience managing external auditors, accounting consultants, valuation specialists, and tax advisors.
• Demonstrated AI-native working style, including daily use of LLMs for drafting, research, and analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication, high ownership, and comfort creating Python, SQL, or similar automations.

Nice to have

• Experience preparing a company for its first external audit or taking a company public through an S-1, IPO readiness process, or first 10-K.
• Capitalized software accounting experience in a SaaS or AI business.
• Experience with international transfer pricing, intercompany accounting, Workiva, NetSuite, FloQast, or similar tools.
