TL;DR

Lead Wetland Field Ecologist (Environmental Science): Leading and managing crews in conducting wetland and ecological surveys for utility, transportation, and development projects with an accent on wetland and stream delineations. Focus on performing functional and habitat assessments, managing geospatial data, and preparing technical reports for permitting.

Location: Des Moines, IA, USA. Must reside in the Midwest and be authorized to work in the US (E-Verify).

Salary: $27.00-40.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Lead, manage, and mentor multiple crews conducting wetland and ecological surveys in the field.
  • Perform wetland delineations according to the 1987 USACE Manual and regional supplements.
  • Collect, record, and analyze geospatial data utilizing Trimble and ESRI products.
  • Prepare technical reports, memos, and documentation for project planning and permitting.
  • Conduct habitat assessments, functional assessments, vegetation surveys, and wildlife surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and mitigate in-field risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in wetland delineations.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading wetland delineation teams.
  • Knowledge of federal and state wetland regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to travel 80-90% during field season and work extended hours (10+ per day).

Nice to have

  • Experience with USACE Atypical and Problem Wetland Areas methodology.
