Protection and Control Engineer (Utilities)

TL;DR

Protection and Control Engineer (Utilities): Perform detailed design and analysis of substation electrical power systems with an accent on one-line diagrams, relaying schematics, and protective relay settings. Focus on conducting power system studies including short circuit, load flow, and arc flash, developing relay settings, and providing field troubleshooting.

Location: Remote or in-office (Lakewood, CO). Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Salary: $75,000 - $110,000 / year (based on Denver, Colorado labor market)

What you will do

• Perform detailed substation design including one-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring, SCADA, communications, grounding, and equipment selection
• Prepare computer-based models for power system studies such as short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, and harmonics
• Develop protective relay settings and validate with hand calculations
• Prepare project documents including cost estimates, proposals, reports, and schedules
• Provide field assistance, troubleshooting, and check work of designers and drafters
• Assist with client communications and apply relevant codes and standards

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (electric power option preferred)
• 1–5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience in substation electrical design
• FE and/or PE licensure highly preferred
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards

• Experience with AutoCAD
