Engineering Group Manager - Semi-Permanent Mold/Precision Sand Tooling and Process (Automotive)

Engineering Group Manager (Automotive): Leading engineering teams to define and specify manufacturing processes for semi-permanent mold and precision sand cast products with an accent on casting strategy for prismatic components. Focus on overseeing equipment installation, resolving casting defects, and optimizing manufacturing efficiencies across multiple facilities.

Location: Hybrid: Must be based in Warren, Michigan (reporting at least 3 times per week) with frequent travel (75%+) to facilities in Ohio, Michigan, and Mexico.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 9–14 engineers focused on casting manufacturing strategy.
• Manage the procurement, fabrication, and installation of tooling and equipment for specialized manufacturing.
• Drive cross-site standardization of best practices, lessons learned, and tools across multiple locations.
• Lead the Launch Wall process, including Manufacturing Validations, Build Plans, and PPAP.
• Analyze casting defects to drive root cause resolution and continuous improvement.
• Develop and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics.

Requirements

• 5+ years of supervisory or people leadership experience.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in Low Pressure Die Casting, Precision Sand, or Semi-Permanent Mold.
• 5+ years of budget management experience (operating and/or capital budgets).
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Technical knowledge of aluminum chemistry, heat treat, and metallurgical processes.
• Must have permanent work authorization; GM does not provide immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Training in aluminum metallurgy or experience with injection molds and giga/structural castings.
• Proficiency in simulation tools such as Magma or Flow-3D.
• Experience with 3D design software including NX or CATIA.
• Background in mechanical properties testing and formal problem-solving methodologies.
