Physical Engineer (Substations)

Location: United States; remote, hybrid, or local/in-office work in Lakewood, Colorado. Travel is typically 15–25% and includes periodic field engagement. Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop physical layouts for transmission and distribution substations.
• Prepare equipment arrangements, plan and section views, grounding layouts, and conduit or cable routing.
• Support construction drawing packages through 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC milestones.
• Interpret vendor drawings and integrate equipment requirements into design packages.
• Revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD, BlueBeam, AutoCAD Electrical, or Bentley MicroStation.
• Coordinate with protection and controls, civil, design, and project management teams; perform design checks and support field reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred.
• 1–4 years of relevant engineering or substation design experience.
• FE or PE licensure is preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation, BlueBeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Current full-time authorization to work in the United States is required.
