Senior Civil Structural Engineer (Substation)

Location: Nationwide remote within the United States; occasional visits to client substation facilities and travel for client meetings and industry events are expected. Listed location: Reston, Virginia, United States.

Salary: $119,323.00–$202,850.00 per year.

What you will do

• Develop civil and structural engineering drawings and calculation packages from concept through detailed design for utility substation projects.
• Perform design reviews and support bid and construction packages for substations and renewable energy projects.
• Design site grading, cut-and-fill plans, impervious-area calculations, erosion control, stormwater systems, and SPCC requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and engineering codes and standards.
• Develop junior staff, contribute to proposals, and collaborate with engineers, designers, drafters, and clients.
• Provide technical support during construction, including occasional client-site visits and travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in electric utility substation design engineering and reviews.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Strong experience with steel and concrete structures, foundations, site grading, geotechnical engineering, access roads, and relevant codes.
• Experience designing and reviewing substation civil and structural systems in seismic areas, including containment systems, retaining walls, control shelters, buildings, and firewalls.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, quality control, and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with STAAD.Pro, RISA 3D, FAD Tools, SAFE, SAG10, and LPile.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, georeferenced drawings, surveying, geotechnical specifications, and construction specifications.
• Experience leading client-facing sessions such as lunch-and-learns and project kick-off meetings.
