Electrical Engineer (BESS)

TL;DR

Electrical Engineer (BESS): Performing detailed physical and electrical design and analysis for utility-scale battery energy storage systems with an accent on equipment sizing, power system studies, and specifications. Focus on load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, arc flash studies, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.

Location: Remote or in-office in Lakewood, CO. Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Salary: $75,000 - $110,000 / year (based on Denver, Colorado labor market)

What you will do

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on physical and electrical design for BESS, including general arrangements, single line diagrams, and construction details.
• Prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies like load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and harmonics.
• Write material, equipment, and construction specifications; review submittals for conformance.
• Prepare cost estimates, budget reports, and project documents; provide field assistance and troubleshooting.
• Review work of designers and drafters; maintain knowledge of codes and standards.
• Build client relationships and attend training for professional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (electric power option preferred)
• 1–4 years of relevant engineering or field experience
• FE licensure (PE a plus)
• Experience with AutoCAD
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Nice to have

• Experience with utility-scale BESS
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PowerFactory, CYMCAP, CDEGS
• Experience with 3D BIM design software
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
