Salary: $204,800 - $290,000 (USD) / 253,000 - 316,000 (CAD)

What you will do
- Set the long-term technical vision and architecture for backend systems powering experimentation, personalization, and conversion optimization.
- Architect high-throughput distributed systems and APIs to process large volumes of event data with low latency and high availability.
- Lead foundational platform investments and data infrastructure to unlock future product capabilities.
- Partner with data scientists and ML engineers to integrate AI/ML capabilities into real-time backend infrastructure.
- Drive complex, multi-team technical initiatives from initial problem framing through implementation and operational ownership.
- Mentor staff and senior engineers to elevate the organization's engineering bar and technical culture.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in architecting large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong technical foundation in Python, Java, or Go, and fluency in modern distributed systems patterns.
- Proven track record of designing and operating high-throughput, data-intensive production systems.
- Experience leading ambiguous, cross-pillar initiatives and influencing engineering strategy beyond a single team.
- Must be based in the United States or in British Columbia/Ontario, Canada.
- BS/BA degree or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with A/B testing, feature flagging, recommendation systems, or customer data platforms.
- Familiarity with the statistical foundations of online experimentation (e.g., CUPED, sequential testing).
- Experience with Node.js and TypeScript in large-scale production systems.
