TL;DR

Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment: Manage labor and employment legal function for North America with an accent on US federal/state and Canadian laws compliance, claims and litigation handling. Focus on providing counseling on discrimination, harassment, hiring/firing issues, analyzing legislation, reviewing policies, and ensuring legal compliance.

Location: Remote (Canada; must be authorized to work in Canada)

Salary: CAD 110,000 - 150,000 yearly

What you will do

  • Provide legal advice on US federal/state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, Title VII, EEOC) and Canadian laws (ESA, HRA, AODA)
  • Manage employment claims, litigation, EEOC/DOL complaints, and HRA matters
  • Analyze legislation, prepare legal documents, review company policies for labor/employment compliance
  • Advise management on legal risks, ensure compliance to mitigate liability
  • Collaborate with HR, business clients, and external counsel on litigation, budgeting, and cost controls
  • Direct paralegals on employment/labor support and participate in special projects

Requirements

  • J.D. from accredited law school; admitted to NJ bar or eligible for NJ in-house counsel license; licensed in at least one US state
  • 5-10 years practicing attorney experience in US/Canadian labor & employment law, preferably private practice and in-house
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, legal reasoning, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and coordinate internal/external legal activities
  • English at highest level; occasional travel (5-33%)
