TL;DR

Law Clerk I (Legal): Providing litigation support for a large federal agency with an accent on legal research, cite checking, and document review. Focus on preparing draft legal documents, performing complex research via Westlaw/Lexis, and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation.

Location: Must be based in the US (Baltimore, MD, Rockville, MD, or Remote)

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 a year

What you will do

  • Perform complex legal research for trial staff.
  • Prepare draft legal documents including motions, briefs, and memoranda of law.
  • Review and conduct research for Release of Information (ROI) and new cases.
  • Edit final decisions and research legal opinions on new cases.
  • Brief attorneys on legal issues, theories, and statements of facts.
  • Execute cite checking using Westlaw, Lexis, and Bluebook.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school (minimum one year completed).
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems and legal research procedures.
  • Proficiency with LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Extensive experience with cite checking and the Bluebook.
  • Familiarity with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging.
  • Must be based in the US

Nice to have

  • Experience in Government and/or Litigation Support environments.
  • Experience with Relativity.
  • Publication of legal writings or participation in Law Review.
  • Current or active security clearance.
