Design Engineer (Hydropower)

TL;DR

Design Engineer (Hydropower): Mechanical design of new and refurbish Francis, Kaplan and propeller turbine units with an accent on analytical calculations, cost optimization, and specification compliance. Focus on producing engineering instructions for manufacturing and installation, participating in design reviews, and providing technical support during production and site activities.

Location: Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada. Hybrid work mode. Legal work status in Canada required. Available for occasional trips in Canada and abroad.

What you will do

• Collaborate with hydraulic and mechanical design engineers, drafters, and project teams to complete turbine designs meeting specifications while optimizing costs.
• Perform analytical design calculations for stresses and strains, and prepare technical specifications per internal and industry standards.
• Produce engineering instructions for manufacturing and installation, track engineering budgets and schedules.
• Organize and participate in design reviews, review and seal technical documentation.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing and installation of turbines or generators.
• Participate in tool development, problem solving, root cause analysis, and technical bid documentation.

Requirements

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
• 10+ years in refurbishment or design of hydroelectric turbines or heavy mechanical structures (pulp/paper, mining).
• Customer-oriented, teamwork, interpersonal skills, technical leadership, solution-oriented, continuous development.
• Excellent written and oral communication; fluently bilingual English and French (desired).
• Knowledge of MS Office, CAD systems, and relevant IT tools; manufacturing (welding, machining, casting) and site experience an asset.
