Salary: $150,000 - $220,000 USD

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of the Safety Management System (SMS), including policies, procedures, and document control.
• Establish and maintain the Safety Performance Monitoring & Measurement (SPMM) program using SPIs and SPTs.
• Coordinate safety occurrence reporting, incident investigations, and lessons-learned processes.
• Plan internal SMS audits and ensure compliance with UN ECE R157 and UL 4600 standards.
• Develop and deliver SMS training programs to promote a just safety culture across the organization.
• Partner with Risk Management and Safety Case leads to integrate SMS into program milestones.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Systems, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in safety management within a safety-critical industry.
• 3+ years of direct experience owning or contributing to a formal SMS program.
• Deep knowledge of ICAO Doc 9859, UN ECE R157, and UL 4600.
• Fluency in automotive safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 21448, and ISO 8800.
• Must be based in or able to work from Ann Arbor, MI.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in an engineering or safety discipline.
• SMS Lead or Safety Management System certification (e.g., ISASI, IATA SMS).
• Experience with NHTSA, state DMV, or other AV regulatory body submissions.
