Software Controls Engineer (Chassis Dynamics)

Location: Hybrid (Milford, Michigan) — must report to office at least 3 days per week

What you will do

• Develop advanced control and estimation algorithms for vehicle dynamics, propulsion, and thermal systems.
• Test and validate embedded software using MATLAB/Simulink, HIL, SIL, and vehicle testing to ensure safety and compliance.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to assess sensing sufficiency and refine control algorithms based on design analysis.
• Define and refine control system requirements in collaboration with systems engineers and architects.
• Troubleshoot performance issues using data analytics, telemetry, and testing feedback.
• Implement diagnostic and prognostic strategies to enhance system reliability and predictive capabilities.

Requirements

• BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Software Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in control system development or software engineering.
• Proficiency in control system theory, state estimation, and model-based control methodologies.
• Strong programming skills in embedded C, Python, and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with software development tools like GIT and DOORS.
• Valid driver’s license may be required.

Nice to have

• MS or Ph.D. in Engineering with a focus on control systems or software design.
• 8+ years of experience in Brake, Steering, Suspension, or ADAS controls.
• Hands-on experience with Vehicle SPY, INCA toolset, and CANalyzer for vehicle communication.
• Deep understanding of automotive architectures, including battery management systems and powertrain.
