Marine Hybrid Controls & Software Integration Engineer (Embedded): Designing and implementing the logic, architecture, and functional integration of hybrid power systems with an accent on control strategies for propulsion engines, battery systems, and VFDs. Focus on developing functional sequences for power transitions, optimizing energy flows, and validating control algorithms through HIL testing.

Location: Onsite five days a week in Mossville, Illinois (preferred) or Houston, Texas. Relocation assistance provided. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Design and configure control architecture and functional sequences for hybrid power systems and power transitions.
• Program and parameterize Hybrid Control Units and Power Management Systems (PMS) to optimize energy flows between battery systems, engines, and generators.
• Integrate diverse subsystems using J1939, Modbus TCP/RTU, and Ethernet/IP protocols to ensure low-latency communication.
• Lead Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and software-in-the-loop simulations to validate algorithms, fault-handling, and safety interlocks.
• Prepare software functional safety and cyber-resiliency documentation to meet ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, and USCG requirements.
• Develop software-based diagnostic tools and telemetry interfaces to support commissioning and sea trials.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of power management logic, energy storage optimization, and state-machine programming for industrial/marine systems.
• Advanced proficiency in marine data protocols (NMEA 2000, J1939, CANbus) and industrial networking (TCP/UDP).
• Experience with PLC programming (IEC 61131-3), MATLAB/Simulink, or C++/Python for embedded system integration.
• Technical knowledge of VFD performance, motor torque curves, and battery discharge rates.
• Familiarity with Marine Classification Society and USCG functional safety standards.
• Ability to travel at least 30% domestic and international.
