Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role requiring two days per week in the San Francisco office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Salary: $175,000–$225,000 base pay annually, excluding bonus, benefits, and other compensation.

What you will do

• Embed with business functions to conduct technical discovery and scope AI use cases.
• Design, write, test, and deploy Claude-powered agents, automations, and internal tools from initial commit through production.
• Engineer for reliability through model selection, context and caching strategies, evaluations, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, error handling, and cost forecasting.
• Establish baselines, define impact metrics, and instrument builds to measure time savings, error rates, and throughput.
• Enable non-technical teams to identify and build lightweight automations while translating business needs into technical tradeoffs.
• Develop reusable implementation patterns and playbooks for other teams and builders.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional, hands-on experience building production AI agents, automations, or internal tools with Claude.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including API integration, MCP, version control, testing, and debugging.
• Experience making decisions about model selection, caching, cost, reliability, failure modes, data sensitivity, redaction, and human review.
• Ability to partner with non-technical teams, conduct discovery, influence stakeholders, and measure business impact.
• Self-directed builder comfortable working in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment without dedicated engineering support.
