TL;DR
Counsel (Election Law): Develop and drive legal strategies to protect electoral integrity and processes from interference in 2026 and 2028 elections with an accent on impact litigation, policy advocacy, and integrated communications. Focus on devising innovative legal arguments, managing litigation teams, countering federal election subversion, and building coalitions with experts and legislators.
Location: Remote from any location in the United States. Staff work within the U.S.; may not be able to offer employment in all states. Required to travel at least twice per year to team retreats and possibly more for meetings.
Salary: $138,000 - $150,000 per year

What you will do
- Research and devise innovative legal arguments and litigation approaches, managing case or project teams.
- Recruit clients and plaintiffs, engage with outside counsel, and represent in coalitions and external settings.
- Build expertise as thought leaders on mission-related legal issues.
- Manage discovery processes including fact-finding, document review, depositions, and expert discovery.
- Develop and drive complex strategies for litigation, policy reform, and integrated advocacy projects.
- Research, draft, and edit pleadings, motions, briefs, and communications materials like legal memos and op-eds.
- Contribute to policy solutions and campaigns with legislators, agencies, and coalitions.
Requirements
- Five to ten years of legal experience (including clerkships).
- Experience in election law, voting rights, impact litigation, or supporting policy advocacy.
- Exceptional analytical, writing, and presentation skills for lawyer and nonlawyer audiences.
- Entrepreneurial instincts for generating impactful ideas and solving novel problems.
- Ability to track, prioritize, and balance diverse responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to cross-ideological, nonpartisan approach to protecting democracy.
