What you will do
- Design and oversee a global privacy program aligning with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging AI-specific regulations like the EU AI Act.
- Act as the primary legal partner for product and engineering teams, advising on data ingestion, model training, and feature launches.
- Manage the lifecycle of compliance initiatives, including data mapping, Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), and DPIAs.
- Develop automated tooling to triage and fulfill Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and deletion requests.
- Lead the Privacy Incident Response Team (PIRT), developing breach "battle cards" and conducting readiness exercises.
- Monitor the global regulatory landscape to anticipate shifts in privacy laws and ensure company readiness.
Requirements
- Must be based in or be able to relocate to New York.
- 7+ years of legal experience, with at least 4 years focused on privacy and data protection.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. State Bar.
- Strong understanding of how LLMs or machine learning models work.
- Experience leading cross-functional projects or managing a privacy legal function.
- Comfort working with technical systems, configs, and dashboards.
Nice to have
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E, and/or CIPM certifications.
- Previous experience at an AI lab or model developer.
- Experience working at a startup or with fast-moving engineering teams.
- Previous people management experience and experience building teams.
