What you will do

• Build the commercial playbook including MSAs, DPAs, and BAAs, and lead high-stakes negotiations with Fortune 500 customers.
• Manage AI and voice-specific regulatory compliance, focusing on TCPA, FCC rulings, and the EU AI Act.
• Own the global privacy program (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and lead HIPAA compliance for healthcare and insurance clients.
• Oversee corporate governance, equity administration, financing rounds, and the company's IP strategy.
• Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team to guide market entry and risk management.
• Establish the legal function's budget, manage outside counsel, and build the legal team as the company scales.

Requirements

• J.D. from a top law school and active bar membership (California preferred).
• 8+ years of relevant experience, including a top-tier law firm and in-house time at a high-growth technology company.
• Deep expertise in enterprise SaaS commercial contracting and negotiating large-scale MSAs.
• Working fluency in TCPA, AI regulation, biometric privacy (BIPA), or HIPAA.
• Ability to analyze API specs and system diagrams to reason about product behavior.
• Must be based in or able to work hybrid in San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Prior experience as the first or sole GC at a Series A–C company.
• Background at a CPaaS, voice, or foundation-model AI company (e.g., Twilio).
• Hands-on experience with SOC 2 Type II, HITRUST, or ISO 27001 in a legal capacity.
• Direct experience navigating regulator inquiries or formal investigations.
• International experience with EU, UK, Canadian, or LATAM data-protection regimes.
