TL;DR

Focus on leading the PEO exit, designing scalable payroll workflows from scratch, and managing month-end close processes.

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco

What you will do

  • Own end-to-end payroll operations for US and international employees, including processing changes and audits.
  • Lead the transition from PEO to an in-house payroll platform and implement a new HRIS.
  • Manage all payroll-related accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Build and maintain a multi-state compliance program, managing nexus registration and tax filings.
  • Partner with People Ops on compensation cycles, 401(k) updates, and benefits funding.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in full-cycle multi-state payroll processing.
  • Hands-on accounting background with experience in journal entries, accruals, and month-end close.
  • Experience building processes from scratch in high-growth environments.
  • Working knowledge of US payroll tax compliance (941s, 940s, SUI filings).
  • Proficiency with modern payroll and HRIS platforms such as Rippling, Workday, or ADP.
  • Must be based in or able to work in a hybrid setup in San Francisco.

Nice to have

  • Experience leading HRIS and payroll system implementations.
  • Expertise in equity compensation accounting (SBC, RSUs).
  • Experience working with global EOR platforms like Deel.
  • CPA or equivalent accounting credential.
