Telecommunications Engineer

TL;DR

Telecommunications Engineer (FAA Telecom): Assist FAA managers in activating and migrating critical Air Traffic Control services to modernized infrastructure with an accent on project evaluation, technical documentation, and vendor coordination. Focus on navigating FAA databases, developing implementation plans, independent testing, service cutovers, and status reporting.

Location: Hybrid from current residence, must cover Eastern Time Zone core hours (8:00 am – 4:30 pm EST), support FAA facilities across USA and territories. Travel up to 10%. Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.

What you will do

• Assist FAA Telecommunications Managers and SMEs in activation and migration of critical services to new infrastructure.
• Provide engineering, project installation, cutover, tracking, and coordination support for Conversion Appliance System Service (CASS).
• Perform project evaluation, technical documentation review, and data analysis using FAA databases like FSEP and TEMT.
• Develop program implementation plans, coordinate with sites, SSCs, and vendors, and conduct independent test and evaluation.
• Manage service acceptance, cutover procedures, status reporting, metrics, and technical impact analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 11-15 years relevant experience (waivable)
• FAA operational protocols and procedures knowledge required
• Experience in telecom standards: LTE/4G/5G, VoIP, IP, Cloud, Carrier Ethernet, Pseudowire, GPS timing.
• Ability to manage large-scale telecom projects, identify risks, and track schedules.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, project management, and analytical skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and KSN/SharePoint.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to self-prioritize.
• Physical ability for extended computer use, mobility in office and ATC facilities, manual dexterity.
