Systems Engineer III (Border and Coastal Surveillance)

Location: San Diego, CA; hybrid and onsite options. International travel to austere locations, including Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia, is required for approximately 20% of the role.

What you will do

• Conduct site surveys, evaluate operational requirements, and develop optimal architectures for border and coastal surveillance systems.
• Perform analyses of alternatives and recommend surveillance technologies and OEM equipment.
• Develop detailed designs covering viewshed analysis, network mapping, frequency spectrum allocation, electromagnetic interference, and CONOPs.
• Create architecture documents, site survey reports, CDR packages, and test plans and reports.
• Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and support installation of operational systems while guiding engineering staff on operations and maintenance.
• Develop end-user training materials and collaborate with software and platform engineers on command-and-control systems.

Requirements

• Active U.S. national security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required for access to U.S. national security information.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience with COTS border and coastal surveillance technologies, RF communications, wireless networks, and systems engineering analysis.
• Experience with telecommunications networks, including microwave systems and network planning software tools.
• Willingness to travel internationally for several weeks at a time; approximately 20% travel.

Nice to have

• Experience with radar, EO/IR cameras, AIS, IP networks, LTE, microwave, HF, VHF, UHF, SATCOM, tactical data links, and common operational picture software.
