TL;DR

HR Business Partner (People Operations and Immigration): Serve as strategic advisor to business leaders managing full employee lifecycle with an accent on immigration and visa processes. Focus on coordinating H-1B, L-1, green card sponsorships, I-9 compliance, employee relations investigations, and organizational development initiatives.

Location: Columbia, MD, USA (onsite, full-time)

Salary: $85,000 - $120,000

What you will do

  • Act as trusted advisor to business units, aligning HR strategies with organizational goals and providing coaching on performance management and development
  • Conduct investigations into workplace issues, ensure policy compliance, and support disciplinary processes and conflict resolution
  • Manage immigration processes including visa petitions, extensions, and green card sponsorships in coordination with counsel
  • Drive onboarding, learning programs, succession planning, and performance reviews
  • Lead HR initiatives like engagement surveys, compensation reviews, and annual processes
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Operations on people-related programs

Requirements

  • 3–7 years of progressive HR generalist or business partner experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing employment-based immigration processes and working with immigration counsel
  • Strong knowledge of I-9 compliance, work authorization, and federal/state employment laws (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, Title VII)
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive employee relations with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms (Workday, ADP, BambooHR, or similar)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Experience in technology, professional services, or multinational organization
  • Familiarity with global mobility and international HR programs
  • Experience with green card sponsorship (PERM, I-140)
