Lead Archaeology Monitor (Environmental)

Lead Archaeology Monitor (Archaeology): Monitoring remedial excavation at the former Carpinteria Oil and Gas Processing Facility with an accent on cultural feature recognition and notification procedures. Focus on conducting daily construction monitoring, coordinating Tribal monitors, and implementing discovery documentation.

Location: Hybrid (Carpentaria, CA / Ventura, CA)

Salary: $30 - $35 an hour

What you will do

• Conduct daily archaeological construction monitoring and prepare daily logs
• Recognize cultural discoveries and initiate notification procedures to protect cultural features
• Divert construction equipment and activities away from the immediate vicinity of finds
• Complete initial discovery documentation using GPS, photographs, and sketches
• Manage and coordinate on-site Tribal monitors on a day-to-day basis
• Assist with subsurface excavations and on-site laboratory analysis as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
• 2+ years’ experience conducting archaeological monitoring and interacting with Tribal monitors
• Familiarity with Santa Barbara County cultural assemblage
• Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 50 pounds
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen

Nice to have

• 40-hour HAZWOPER training
• Solid experience with identification of human remains
