TL;DR

Archaeologist Principal Investigator/Project Director: Lead cultural resources investigations under Section 106 and 110 of NHPA and NEPA-related projects with an accent on fieldwork surveys, testing, data recovery, and regulatory compliance. Focus on supervising field teams, coordinating with clients and agencies, and preparing technical reports and site forms.

Location: New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM / Carlsbad, NM); Remote; Must be eligible to be employed in the US; Ability to hold state and federal permits in New Mexico and Arizona

Salary: $75,000 - $105,000 biweekly

What you will do

  • Lead cultural resources projects including research, fieldwork surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, and report preparation.
  • Supervise and direct field teams, coordinate project mobilization and demobilization.
  • Manage Section 106 and 110 NHPA compliance, technical studies, and permitting for clients, agencies, and tribes.
  • Mentor junior staff, develop proposals with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables through quality review protocols and meet project obligations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist; ability to hold permits in New Mexico and Arizona
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience (preferably 8 years) in cultural resources in desert southwest and intermountain west
  • Familiarity with GIS; proficiency in MS Office; excellent communication and project management skills
  • Valid driver's license; pass drug/alcohol tests; US work eligibility
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks

Nice to have

  • Permitted or able to be permitted in Texas, Utah, Colorado, or Nevada
  • 10+ years field experience including work with architectural historians
