Archaeologist Principal Investigator/Project Director

Location: Remote within the United States; listed locations include Albuquerque, New Mexico and Carlsbad, New Mexico. Applicants must be eligible for employment in the US and able to hold state and federal permits in New Mexico and Arizona.

Salary: $75,000–$105,000 biweekly

What you will do

• Lead cultural resources and archaeological projects, including surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, historical research, preservation activities, reporting, site forms, and artifact curation.
• Direct field studies and coordinate the mobilization and demobilization of field teams.
• Support NHPA Sections 106 and 110, environmental planning, permitting, consultation, and cultural resources analysis.
• Prepare data recovery and monitoring plans, technical reports, and cultural resources sections for NEPA-related projects.
• Supervise and mentor cultural resources personnel while coordinating with clients, agencies, Tribal representatives, project managers, and architectural historians.
• Manage proposal scopes, schedules, budgets, quality reviews, and project delivery.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist.
• US employment eligibility and the ability to hold state and federal permits in New Mexico and Arizona.
• At least five years of supervisory experience; progressively responsible cultural resources experience in the Desert Southwest and Intermountain West is preferred.
• Experience with GIS data management, project planning and management, technical writing, problem solving, and Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and successful completion of fit-for-work, drug, and alcohol testing are required.

Nice to have

• Ten or more years of field experience and preferably eight years in progressively responsible cultural resources positions.
• Experience working with architectural historians.
• Permits or eligibility to obtain permits in Texas, Utah, Colorado, or Nevada.
