Archaeologist Principal Investigator/Field Director (Southwest)

Location: Remote within the United States; Albuquerque, Phoenix, Prescott, Arizona, and New Mexico are listed as role locations. Overnight and day travel to field sites is required, with outdoor work in variable weather conditions.

What you will do

• Lead cultural resources investigations, archaeological surveys, monitoring, testing, data recovery, historical research, preservation activities, and artifact curation.
• Serve as principal investigator and direct field crews, including project mobilization, fieldwork execution, data management, and final deliverables.
• Support Section 106 and Section 110 of the NHPA, environmental planning, permitting, consultation, and technical studies for private, government, and Tribal clients.
• Supervise, mentor, and coordinate cultural resources staff, junior personnel, clients, agencies, and Tribal representatives.
• Develop proposal scopes, schedules, and budgets while managing project obligations and quality review processes.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist with at least five years of supervisory experience; approximately ten years of progressively responsible cultural resources experience is preferred.
• Must be eligible for employment in the United States.
• Currently hold or be capable of acquiring archaeological permits in New Mexico and Arizona.
• Experience with cultural resources regulations, project planning and management, technical writing, problem solving, and MS Office.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass required pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests.

Nice to have

• Ability to obtain permits in Colorado or Utah.
• Experience providing cultural resources services across the Western United States.
• Experience working with architectural historians.
