Archaeology Field Technician

TL;DR

Archaeology Field Technician (Fieldwork): Conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys, data collection, and subsurface testing throughout the Western United States with an accent on diverse and difficult terrain involving long hikes. Focus on GPS mapping, artifact recording, site documentation, and preparing high-quality field notes.

Location: Fieldwork throughout the Western United States; residence in Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado or New Mexico highly preferred but not required. Overnight travel and remote camping possible.

Salary: $20-25/hr (45-50 hours/week)

What you will do

• Conduct archaeological pedestrian surveys
• Perform data collection using GPS, photographs, site forms, sketches
• Conduct subsurface testing and artifact identification
• Measure and record artifacts in detail
• Prepare high-quality field notes
• Work independently or as part of a team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
• At least 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school
• Experience with archaeological survey and excavation
• Ability to hike 5-10 miles per day in difficult terrain
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver's license; fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (accommodations possible)
• Ability to lift 50 pounds; pass drug & alcohol testing
• Access to laptop for timesheets and reports
