Industrial Hygiene Specialist

TL;DR

Industrial Hygiene Specialist: Independently manage and execute asbestos, lead, mold, and general industrial hygiene consulting projects in the New Jersey/New York metro area with an accent on air monitoring, indoor air quality investigations, and site inspections. Focus on developing technical reports, conducting health and safety inspections, coordinating with contractors, and mentoring junior technicians.

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY and NJ/NYC metro area. Must be willing to travel to job sites within the area, pass physical exam for respirator use, and occasionally work nights/weekends/extended shifts.

What you will do

• Independently perform and manage air monitoring for asbestos abatement, lead, and mold remediation.
• Conduct complex indoor air quality investigations, including sampling and result interpretation for water intrusion.
• Serve as primary on-site representative for inspections and bulk sample collection.
• Develop high-quality technical reports, memos, and addendums with minimal review.
• Perform job site health and safety inspections, identify hazards, and interact with contractors for site access and activities.
• Mentor and train junior technicians on field procedures, safety, and sampling.

Requirements

• High School diploma required; AS or BS in related field preferred. Minimum 3-5 years experience in asbestos, lead paint, IAQ/mold, and industrial hygiene monitoring/inspections.
• Strong communication skills for professional technical reports.
• Minimum 3 certifications: EPA AHERA/NYSDOL Asbestos Project Monitor/Air Sampling Technician, NYSDOL Mold Assessor, NJ/EPA/NY Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector, NYCDEP Asbestos Investigator.
• Knowledge of MS Office, industry software, OSHA/EPA/state regulations.
• Valid driver’s license, pass physical/respirator clearance, drug test, available for irregular hours.

Nice to have

• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Additional asbestos accreditations or Certified Safety Professional.
• Experience in health/safety oversight or construction management.
