Senior Life Medical Underwriter

What you will do

• Assess and document medical and financial risks in customer applications and determine appropriate underwriting terms.
• Make underwriting decisions across Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection.
• Request proportionate additional medical or financial information and support a positive customer journey.
• Contribute to or lead process improvement and change initiatives covering underwriting quality, systems, efficiency, and commercial viability.
• Identify, escalate, and address potential complaints while capturing root causes for continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate underwriting records, communicate with stakeholders and customers, and ensure decisions meet service, legislative, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Proven experience underwriting UK protection products.
• UK medical underwriting experience is essential.
• Strong understanding of mortality and morbidity risk factors, including financial underwriting.
• Extensive knowledge of Life Insurance, Critical Illness, and Income Protection products.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of relevant UK legislation and regulatory requirements, plus experience contributing to or leading underwriting improvement initiatives.
