Salary: $113,000 – $141,525 per year

What you will do
- Interpret and apply NFPA, IFC, UL, and IEC standards to guide BESS product development throughout the design lifecycle.
- Own safety-critical BESS enclosure design and provide technical oversight to mitigate thermal runaway and explosion risks.
- Lead UL 9540 / 9540A testing and conduct fire and explosion modeling using tools such as FLACS, Ansys, or FDS.
- Develop fire code compliance matrices and manage permitting documentation with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Engage with industry consortiums to monitor and contribute to NFPA 855 and UL 9540 / 9540A revision cycles.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of BESS integration practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5-7 years of experience in mechanical design and fire protection for energy, industrial, or safety-critical systems.
- Strong working knowledge of BESS fire codes including UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 68/69, 72, 855, and 110/111.
- Experience supporting permitting, testing, and regulatory approval processes.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Must have US work authorization (E-Verify required).
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Fire Protection Engineering.
- Direct experience with utility-scale BESS.
- Active participation in standards organizations such as NFPA, UL, or IEEE.
- Experience with fire modeling tools (FLACS, Ansys, FDS, etc.).
