Staff Software Engineer (Android): Developing high-performance Android-based infotainment and digital cluster systems with an accent on Android Automotive OS and hybrid Android/RTOS environments. Location: Hybrid (Austin, TX; Mountain View, CA; Warren, MI). Candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week.

Salary: $195,000 - $298,800

What you will do

• Design and develop Android system and application software for infotainment, instrument clusters, and HUDs.
• Integrate Android applications within Android Automotive OS with embedded platforms and multi-display architectures.
• Build reusable frameworks and services utilizing AOSP, Jetpack, and HIDL/AIDL interfaces.
• Optimize system performance, startup times, and resource usage to meet automotive-grade reliability.
• Drive Android-RTOS coexistence strategies for seamless system handoff and communication.
• Collaborate cross-functionally using Agile/Scrum practices and CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of production-grade software development experience.
• 3+ years focused on Android system or application development.
• Deep proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Experience with AOSP, Android HALs, system services, and automotive protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Must be based in or able to work from Austin, Mountain View, or Warren (Hybrid).

Nice to have

• Experience delivering Android-based infotainment systems in production vehicles.
• Proficiency in C++.
• Background in RTOS or hybrid Android/RTOS systems.
• Knowledge of OpenGL, Vulkan, or Unreal Engine for advanced UI rendering.
• Experience with automotive debugging tools like CANoe or VehicleSpy.
