Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, United States; work from the office 3 days per week

Salary: $170,000–$230,000 annually for Tier 1 locations; compensation varies by location and includes equity

What you will do

• Architect and evolve large-scale data ingestion and processing pipelines.
• Build services powering AI inference with in-house models.
• Design, deploy, and operate production microservices.
• Improve the performance and reliability of business-critical platform systems.
• Develop maintainable application code in Python, TypeScript, and Go.
• Partner with teammates to deploy and operate systems in AWS.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building backend applications with Python, TypeScript, or Go.
• Deep experience designing and operating distributed systems in production.
• Experience with message queues, background jobs, and task orchestration tools such as Celery, SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Experience building large-scale data ingestion and processing systems and maintaining microservices.
• Ability to optimize endpoint performance, improve database query efficiency, and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
• Strong ownership and commitment to pragmatic, high-quality, maintainable code.

Nice to have

• Experience with Django.
• Experience at a startup or in another fast-paced, high-growth environment.
