TL;DR

Mechanical Engineer - Design, Analysis, and Test (Power Electronics): Designing and validating critical components for medium-voltage power electronics systems with an accent on FEA-driven design and thermal management. Location: On-site in Scotts Valley, USA

Salary: $120,000–$190,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and optimize power converter components including magnetics, thermal systems, and enclosures.
  • Perform structural, thermal, and multiphysics analysis (FEA/CFD) to guide design decisions and validate performance.
  • Develop and execute design of experiments (DOE) to systematically evaluate design tradeoffs.
  • Research and develop potting and insulation materials for electrical isolation and thermal performance.
  • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V6/3DX.
  • Perform hands-on prototyping and lab testing, correlating simulation results with experimental data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similar.
  • 4+ years of full-time industry experience.
  • Experience with structural and thermal analysis (FEA) and interpreting results to drive design decisions.
  • Proven ability in designing mechanical or electromechanical components and executing validation testing.
  • Strong CAD skills, preferably with CATIA V6/3DX.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, lab testing, and high-volume manufacturing processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing magnetics (transformers, inductors) or thermally-constrained components.
  • Proficiency with multiphysics tools such as Ansys, StarCCM, MATLAB, Simulink, or Python.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage or grid-scale power systems.
  • Experience with reliability testing, DFMEAs, and PLM controlled release processes.
