UI/UX Designer (Federal)

TL;DR

UI/UX Designer (Federal): Designing and developing user-centric software interfaces for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with an accent on enterprise-scale design systems and accessibility. Focus on conceptualizing custom software capabilities, creating high-fidelity prototypes, and aligning design strategies with federal business objectives.

Location: Currently Remote, but must be based in or able to work in Ashburn, VA as operations return to normal. U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass DHS CBP BI clearance required.

What you will do

• Serve as an Agile Scrum team member providing UI/UX design for the delivery of releasable software in short sprint cycles.
• Conceptualize and design custom software capabilities for legacy and modernized systems with limited oversight.
• Lead the design of a cohesive look-and-feel and standardized user experience across all applications.
• Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas to stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain standard layout and style libraries across the product suite.
• Mentor junior team members and collaborate closely with business analysts and software engineers.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a CBP background investigation.
• 7+ years of professional experience as a visual, interaction, or experience designer.
• Degree in Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or Human Factors.
• Professional experience with enterprise UI design tools such as Figma or Axure.
• Knowledge of modern front-end systems and open source frameworks, specifically Angular.
• Ability to balance design aesthetics with technical feasibility and maintenance.

Nice to have

• Design Thinking certifications (e.g., IDEO, Stanford, Cornell, MIT).
• Proven experience designing for web accessibility (Section 508 standards).
• Experience with information architecture.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
