Specialist Engineer (Power System Modelling)

TL;DR

Specialist Engineer (Power System Modelling): Lead testing activities for model validation and control tuning for generation plants including wind, solar, and energy storage systems, perform simulation studies per NERC standards with an accent on power system analysis, protection, and control. Focus on onsite generator model validation testing, simulation studies, detailed engineering reports, and client presentations.

Location: Surrey, B.C. Hybrid and/or remote work model considered after probation period. Must be eligible and willing to work and travel to the US for site testing. Must hold valid class 5 BC driver’s license or equivalent.

What you will do

• Review power plant documents to prepare unit-specific test plans per requirements.
• Travel to industrial sites in multiple countries for onsite generator model validation testing.
• Perform simulation studies and prepare detailed engineering reports.
• Conduct peer reviews on technical reports.
• Present study results to clients and act as subject matter expert.
• Assist in proposal development, cost estimates, and work scopes for RFPs.

Requirements

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering specialized in power systems (or equivalent experience).
• Registered Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
• At least 10 years experience in electrical engineering with expertise in protection/control, power system analysis, or related research.
• Knowledge of power plant commissioning/testing, generator protection/control, renewables modelling, power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD).
• Strong project management and client-facing skills desirable.

Nice to have

• Experience with relay instruments (SEL, Beckwith, GE Multilin).
• Understanding of synchronous generators, renewables, FACTS protections/controls.
