TL;DR

Legal Counsel - US (AI): Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements to support North American business growth with an accent on product matters, privacy, regulatory compliance, and IP. Focus on scaling legal processes, providing strategic advice to cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with AI-specific laws.

Location: Hybrid in Palo Alto, US. Visa sponsorship available.

AI company building high-performance open-source models and platforms like Le Chat, La Plateforme, Mistral Code, and Mistral Compute.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including creating form agreements.
• Develop legal processes, policies, templates, and training to scale with company growth.
• Provide legal, regulatory, and strategic advice from project inception to launch.
• Manage outside counsel and ensure compliance with US and international AI regulations.
• Build relationships across the company and with external partners.

Requirements

• JD from accredited law school and active state bar membership.
• 4+ years law firm or in-house experience, preferably in tech.
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Fluency in AI tools and understanding of AI legal intersections (privacy, IP, regulations).
• Generalist skills, pragmatic judgment, excellent communication.
• International mindset a plus.
