TL;DR

Product Counsel (AI): Serving as the dedicated legal partner for the Claude Developer Platform and API with an accent on developer tooling, cloud-partner distribution, and AI-specific legislation. Focus on drafting developer-facing terms, navigating novel legal questions at the intersection of enterprise readiness and AI infrastructure, and ensuring contractual compliance.

Location: Must be based in or be able to work from the San Francisco or New York offices at least 3 days a week

Salary: $265,000 - $320,000 USD

What you will do

• Provide legal guidance across the API, developer ecosystem, and cloud-distribution product lifecycles.
• Draft and negotiate API terms of service, acceptable-use policies, and developer agreements.
• Advise on API product features, tiered-access programs, and identity verification requirements.
• Collaborate with Platform PM, API Engineering, and Commercial Legal on cloud-partner distribution (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex).
• Support incident response and escalations related to API misuse and developer policy violations.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• At least 8 years of relevant legal experience in API/platform, cloud-marketplace, or tech-transactions.
• Strong technical fluency across cloud computing, APIs, and AI/ML infrastructure concepts.
• Working knowledge of data-processing agreements and emerging AI governance frameworks.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and navigate ambiguity.

Nice to have

• In-house platform or API counsel experience at a cloud/SaaS company.
• Experience with cloud-marketplace distribution (e.g., AWS Marketplace / Bedrock, GCP / Vertex, Azure).
• Experience structuring marketplace licensing or enterprise data-processing agreements.
