What you will do

  • Conduct failure analysis of superconducting chips using TEM and FIB-SEM.
  • Utilize characterization techniques such as Raman, IR, XPS, EDS, and XRD to analyze materials.
  • Interpret data related to crystallography, material structure, and defects.
  • Collaborate with device physicists and fabrication engineers to optimize fabrication stacks.
  • Document experimental results and guide development of new materials via literature and modeling.
  • Coordinate packaging sample preparation and troubleshoot materials-related issues.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience with FIB-SEM and EDS.
  • Strong critical thinking and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research in materials science.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Must be based in or able to work in Burnaby, BC in a hybrid format.

Nice to have

  • Background in TEM, XRD, XPS, or FTIR.
  • Experience in failure analysis of microelectronics.
  • Experience with noise models and characterization.
