TL;DR

Director, People Operations (Mental Health Tech): Own day-to-day People Operations, report directly to CEO, manage in-house recruiter, and execute core HR programs including performance management, compliance, and workforce planning with an accent on AI adoption and cultural change. Focus on coaching managers through performance issues, driving employee experience initiatives, ensuring operational excellence, and owning SF office logistics for hybrid cadence.

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid, 2+ days/week in office, must be based in San Francisco)

Salary: $166,000 - $200,000 a year

What you will do

  • Coach managers on performance, team dynamics, and employee relations with sound judgment.
  • Partner with CEO to design AI upskilling programs and drive cultural change around AI adoption.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, headcount scenarios, and hiring discipline.
  • Serve as culture carrier, shaping internal events and employee experience programs for retention.
  • Run people programs end-to-end, from performance cycles to benefits renewals.
  • Ensure compliance, payroll accuracy, and vendor QA; manage recruiting operations.
  • Own SF office experience and logistics for 2 days/week in-person cadence.

Requirements

  • Based in San Francisco and able to go into the office 2+ days per week
  • 7+ years in People Ops/HRBP/HR roles in high-growth environments (startup Series A-C preferred)
  • Strong HR generalist foundation: performance management, employee relations, investigations, manager coaching
  • Experience with hybrid/distributed teams across jurisdictions
  • Led change management for major shifts (AI/tool adoption, re-org)
  • Excellent communication, judgment, discretion; AI fluency
  • Autonomous, hands-on operator passionate about mental health mission
