Principal Software Engineer (AI): Owns the CPE engineering domain’s architecture, operational excellence, and engineering standards for high-scale payments, onboarding, geolocation, responsible gaming, promotions, and marketing systems with an accent on extreme peak-load resilience, auditability, and regulated-environment design. Focus on shaping cross-domain technical strategy, setting standards for AI-assisted software development, resolving complex production issues, and mentoring senior engineering leaders.

What you will do
- Own the CPE domain’s current and target-state architecture and align Senior Staff Engineers around its technical strategy.
- Lead operational excellence, including complex production incident resolution, mitigation, and corrective actions.
- Develop prototypes and reference implementations that establish clear engineering patterns and high code-quality standards.
- Influence technical tradeoffs across teams and domains, balancing short-term business needs with long-term technology direction.
- Set standards for operational excellence, security, quality, and the use of AI across the software development lifecycle.
- Coach and mentor Senior Staff Engineers and support the senior escalation tier for the domain’s software.
Requirements
- Expert experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available systems under extreme peak loads.
- Experience influencing technical direction across engineering organizations of more than 200 people.
- Expert knowledge of engineering design patterns, architectural approaches, and pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development, including agentic coding, spec-driven workflows, review, testing, and verification.
- Deep experience with modern backend languages, including Java, across functional and object-oriented approaches.
- Proven ability to improve operational excellence and engineering practices through influence and collaboration.
