TL;DR

Location: Fully remote but must be located on the US East Coast and overlap with East Africa timezone by at least 3 hours (e.g., meetings from 8am)

What you will do
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes, ensuring accuracy, documentation, and variance analysis.
- Oversee revenue recognition, general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and journal entries per US GAAP.
- Manage annual financial audits, Single Audit, Form 990 filings, and compliance with donor requirements.
- Serve as key decision-maker on accounting treatments and partner cross-functionally on processes.
- Implement workflow improvements, update policies, and support staff development where applicable.
- Travel 1-2 times per year for team retreats or field visits.
Requirements
- Must be located on the US East Coast with 3+ hours overlap to East Africa timezone
- Bachelor’s in accounting/finance or equivalent; 7+ years in accounting/finance with data analysis.
- Strong US GAAP knowledge; experience with multi-entity accounting and audits.
- Professional qualification (CPA/ACCA) preferred; advanced Excel and aptitude for tools like Sage Intacct.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving under pressure.
- US work authorization required (no visa sponsorship); professionally proficient English.
