Law Clerk (Legal): Providing litigation support for a large federal agency with an accent on legal research, document preparation, and case management. Focus on overseeing habeas corpus and immigration matters, analyzing judicial precedents, and drafting formal legal responses.

Location: Macon, GA (On-site). Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain adjudication for a background investigation.

Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 a year

What you will do

• Oversee practice regarding 28 USC §2255 (habeas corpus) and immigration habeas matters, including docketing and calendaring.
• Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, and agency regulations for complex or unprecedented cases.
• Support AUSAs by briefing attorneys on pertinent facts, issues, and case law.
• Draft legal documents, correspondence, and proposed orders for signatures of judges and magistrates.
• Determine applicable administrative statutory and regulatory law to identify possible defenses, violations, or causes of action.
• Stay current on federal, state, and local laws, alerting attorneys to potential issues within case files.

Requirements

• Law Degree (J.D.).
• Minimum one (1) year of post-J.D. professional legal or other relevant experience.
• Proficiency in research tools such as Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis, and CourtLink.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain adjudication for the requisite background investigation.
• Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with court personnel and government officials.
