TL;DR

Director of Product: Lead and develop a high-performing team of product managers building technology for criminal justice reform with an accent on strategic direction, team systems, and cross-functional partnerships. Focus on scaling product impact through mentoring PMs, building hiring pipelines, and championing AI-assisted workflows in discovery and prototyping.

Location: Remote in the United States only, New York City, or Oakland, CA offices. Visa sponsorship not available. Some travel to state partners expected (about one trip per quarter).

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of experienced product managers, including hiring pipeline from sourcing to close.
• Build people systems like career ladders, performance frameworks, and onboarding for team growth and stability.
• Foster cross-functional trust with engineering, design, data science, policy, and government stakeholders.
• Set strategic context, help PMs prioritize, define strategies, and translate ambiguity into clear product decisions.
• Champion AI tools in product workflows, setting standards for discovery, scoping, prototyping, and adaptability.

Requirements

• 10+ years in product management, 5+ years managing teams including senior ICs and emerging leaders
• Deep care for people growth, exceptional communication, relationship-building, and trust-earning skills
• Experience coaching PMs toward management, operating in ambiguity, building people systems from scratch
• Proven recruiting at scale: pipeline, interviews, closing in competitive markets
• Strong strategic instincts, builder's mindset, willingness to travel quarterly

Nice to have

• Experience in complex multi-stakeholder environments like public sector or nonprofits
• Background in criminal justice, high-growth startups, or AI-assisted product development
• Track record elevating ICs into strategic senior roles
