TL;DR

Project Engineer II - DRE (Powertrain): Provide technical, program, and account management expertise to cross-functional business development and engineering teams for mobility solutions in combustion engines, transmissions, hybrids, fuel cells, batteries, and ADAS/AD with an accent on system architecture, design processes, and project execution. Focus on leading technical studies, coordinating DFMEAs and design reviews, resolving conflicts, supplier negotiations, and driving releases to meet tight deadlines and budgets.

Plymouth, MI, US (onsite/offsite in Michigan). Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Employer will not sponsor a work visa.

What you will do

  • Plan and lead workflow for self and team to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Lead project phases including technical studies, specification writing, architecture, and interface management.
  • Coordinate design reviews, DFMEAs, DVPRs, BOM input, supplier negotiations, and change management.
  • Drive release processes, ensure deliverables align with project timing, and resolve engineering conflicts.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and lead single-team proposals while interfacing with customers and other systems.
  • Provide engineering leadership to project teams and maintain awareness of costs and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related; Master’s preferred.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in powertrain design with excellent knowledge of engine systems.
  • Lead system engineering processes including P-diagrams, boundary diagrams, DFMEAs, DVP&R, and supplier negotiations.
  • Strong team leadership, communication, presentation skills, and customer interaction.
  • Good understanding of CAE tools, mechanical development, and quality management.
  • Physical ability for light/moderate lifting, standing, walking, and hearing requirements.
  • CAD skills (Catia V5 advantageous).
