Senior Design Automation Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Design Automation Engineer (Automation & Controls): Support automation initiatives from concept through production deployment with an accent on advanced technologies such as automation cells, collaborative robots (Cobots), and seamless integration of systems. Focus on improving equipment uptime, developing processes for manual-to-automated transitions, and overseeing full equipment life cycles including troubleshooting and vendor reviews.

Onsite in Dexter, Michigan, United States. Minimum 4 days a week onsite. Requires unrestricted U.S. work authorization at time of hire; no sponsorship for roles below Principal level.

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 USD

What you will do

• Execute automation opportunities from concept to production deployment and support equipment mechanization from business case to implementation.
• Improve equipment uptime through troubleshooting, design changes, vendor partnerships, and hypercare.
• Develop and maintain automation roadmaps for value streams and processes to transition from manual to automated operations.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and sustaining engineering teams to integrate process changes.
• Document equipment requirements, review vendor designs, and oversee installation and hypercare of electromechanical systems.
• Drive standard work for equipment health assessment, reliability, and full life cycle support from development to sunsetting.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree with minimum 4 years relevant experience, or Master's with 2 years, or PhD.
• Experience in PLC troubleshooting, mechanical/electrical design, machine building, systems engineering.
• Programming in .NET or Python; simulation tools; machine vision; robotics and cobots; process development.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization required; no sponsorship below Principal level.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the role including mobility and computer interaction.
