TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Spacecraft): Designing and analyzing spacecraft components and subsystems with an accent on structural integrity, thermal design, and manufacturability. Focus on executing the full lifecycle of electromechanical products, from clean-sheet CAD design to environmental testing and build integration.
Location: Onsite in Mountain View and San Jose, CA. Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, etc.) due to ITAR/EAR regulations.
Salary: $144,000 - $177,000

What you will do
- Develop clean-sheet mechanical and structural designs for spacecraft subsystems using SolidWorks.
- Perform stress, dynamics, and thermal analyses using hand calculations and FEM to inform structural designs.
- Create build procedures and oversee technicians during the assembly and integration of mechanical hardware.
- Design test fixtures and GSE for environmental testing, including vibration, shock, and TVAC.
- Manage engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and configuration control via PLM systems.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (avionics, thermal, optical, RF) and external vendors to deliver mechanical subsystems.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing, building, and testing flight hardware in space, aerospace, or robotics.
- B.S. or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for component and assembly design.
- Experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and ECO processes.
- Must be a U.S. person (citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) to comply with U.S. Government export regulations.
- Demonstrated experience executing structural or environmental tests and documenting results.
Nice to have
- Experience with deployable structures, solar arrays, antennas, or SADA mechanisms.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as FEMAP, ANSYS, or Nastran.
- Experience with composite materials, bonded assemblies, or optomechanical instrument design.
- Software skills in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with FAI processes, non-conformance reporting, and MRB activities.
