Legal Counsel (Fintech)

TL;DR

Legal Counsel (Fintech): Supporting the Legal & Compliance function in building a world-class legal and regulatory infrastructure for global payment services with an accent on commercial contracting and regulatory compliance. Focus on advising on legal risks, managing payment institution licences, and drafting contracts for regulated payment services.

Location: Must be based in San Francisco, California; requires working from the office 4 days per week (including Monday and Friday).

What you will do

• Provide legal and contractual support for commercial contracting, product development, and sales.
• Handle substantive legal issues across payments, privacy, intellectual property, and corporate law.
• Liaise between departments to anticipate legal requirements and provide pragmatic guidance.
• Monitor statutory and regulatory changes to ensure group-wide compliance.
• Manage the balance and allocation of internal and external legal resources.

Requirements

• Law qualification and admission as a lawyer, ideally in California or New York.
• Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification legal experience.
• Proven experience in legal negotiation and drafting from a law firm or in-house role.
• Broad expertise in commercial law, payments, and intellectual property.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office 4 days per week.
